This \nrevealed only a single 2cm tongue of Barrett\u2019s mucosa. Biopsies have confirmed Barrett\u2019s oesophagus. \nOtherwise there was no significant abnormality in his upper GI tract. Distal duodenal biopsies revealed a normal vilious \narchitecture, although there did appear to be an increase in the number of intraepithelial lymphocytes. 1t would seem \nunlikely that these minor changes represent coeliac disease, nevertheless serological tests to exclude this would be \nwarranted. \nGiven the weight loss, I arranged for a CT scan of his thorax and abdomen. This is essentially normai, revealing only \nchanges of emphysema and a moderate anterior wedge compression of L1. \nIt seems unlikely that there is any significant underlying abnormality to account for his symptoms and he will be seen in \nthe clinic in due course to assess his weight and we can check his coeliac serology at that juncture. \nYours sincerely \nastroenterologist \nDelivering
