{"text":"NHS Confidential: Personal data about a patient \nEXPLANATORY NOTES ON B.C.G. VACCINATION \nB.C.G vaccination is usually uneventful. A single injection \nof 0.1 c.c. is given intradermally in the left deltoid region. \nSome time later there appears at the site a small red papule \nwhich enlarges to a maximum and then slowly hea \nOccasionally, a small ulcer with discharge develops or some \nswelling of the axillary glands. These complications are \nbenign and always clear up without chemotherapy. To ensure \nthe maximum effect, it is desirable to subject the papule to as \nlittle disturbance as possible. \nThe vaccine causes no pyrexia or other general constitutional \nupset. If a .child should exhibit any signs of ill-health in the \nperiod after B.C.G. vaccination, some intercurrent condition \nshould be sought as the true cause of illness. It is advisable to \nwithhold any other immunisation until at least six weeks after \n! vaccination. \nShould you wish further guidance on any aspect of B.C.G. \n\\ vaccination, the Medical Officers
